Perforate St. John’s wort or Klamath weed has great medicinal properties of wide applications. The essential oil of perforate St. John’s wort is used for the treatment of intestinal parasites, and its phenolic compounds have an antibacterial effect. Perforate St. John’s wort is also used for treating the menstrual cramps, bronchitis, asthma, swelling, joint rheumatism, lower back pain, and many internal diseases. It is also used as an oil, tea, and medicinal drink. Tea is used for coughing, headaches, blood clots, in kidney, spleen and liver disease, against depression, and for the bladder that cannot hold urine. Internal ailments can also be successfully reduced or eliminated with tea. It is useful against the accumulation of mucus in the lungs and head cavity; in removing the pressure in the stomach, in treating the inflammation of the bladder, in treating the inflammation of the kidneys and kidney stones, and in relieving sciatica.
