Oak bark
Oak – Quercus
Oak bark preparations are used in baths for skin ulcers, sores, hemorrhoids, fissures, wet eczema, fungal infections, skin inflammations in infants, and act as an astringent. Its tea is taken for gingivitis, inflammation of the oral cavity, and angina. Intestinal parasites cause diarrhea and colic in domestic animals, and the oak bark tea is used to stop them. It also has a disinfectant effect because it agglutinates and damages the cell surfaces of various microorganisms. It stops minor bleeding, and gradually reduces the inflammation. The bark of trees and young branches is collected in the spring before leafing. For pharmaceutical purposes, plantations are planted that are being cut every few years. Common oak and sessile oak grow in groves and forests throughout Croatia.
